Phishing • Definition-A crime that involves trying to obtain private information like passwords and credit card numbers through means like fake websites and emails. • This can be dangerous, so make sure to check the authenticity of websites and emails before sending them sensitive information.
Spyware • Definition-Malware that can collect information about computer users without their knowledge. It can often hinder a computer’s performance. • People can install them without meaning to as spyware is often installed with other programs. • Many anti-virus programs now have anti-spyware features.
Cookies • Definition-Bits of text information about web usage stored on web browsers. • Cookies can be easily deleted and users can also choose not to accept cookies from websites.
Firewalls • Definition-Hardware or software that prevents unauthorized parties from accessing information on a computer or network. • All information and messages entering or leaving the system are checked for security. • Firewalls can prevent people from accessing private networks.
