  3. Lab Fire Extinguisher • To use the fire extinguisher, pull the pin, point the hose at the fire and squeeze the handles together. • There are several Classes of Fire Extinguishers. You should know each type and the fires that you can use them on.

  4. Class A Fire Extinguishers • Class A Fire extinguishers are to be used on fires that involve wood, cloth and paper. • Class A Fire Extinguishers are normally filled with water. • If you used a Class A fire extinguisher on an electrical fire, you may get electrocuted.

  5. Class B Fire Extinguishers • Class B Fire Extinguishers can be used on fires involving liquid chemicals such as oil, paints, grease, gasoline etc. • A Class A Fire extinguisher will spread many of the fires.

  6. Class C Fire Extinguishers • Class C Fire Extinguishers are designed for electrical fires. They use a powder to fight the fire.

  7. Class D Fire Extinguishers • Class D Fire extinguishers are used for metal fires, such as lithium, sodium and potassium metals. • These metals are explosive if water is placed on them. So Class A fire extinguishers would make the fire worse if used on a metal fire.

  8. Lab Fire Extinguisher • The fire extinguisher in the lab is classified as an Class A, B and C Fire extinguisher so it contains no water. • What type of fires can this fire extinguisher used on?
