An Adorned Karva Chauth Thali Would Provide a Special Touch of Divinity In northern India, women perform the rituals of Karva Chauth which occurs on the fourth day of Hindu month Kartik usually falls in October or November. For their husband’s well-being and prosperity, married women go for performing this rigorous vrat. Unmarried women also participate in this ritual in a bid to get their desired husband. women eat ‘sargi’ prepared by their mothers-in-law and whole day remain refrained from taking any food and even from drinking water. In the evening when the moon rises, they give Ark to the moon by seeing it through the chhalni (Sieve). After that women touch the feet of their husbands with due respect seeking blessings in the form of love and protection. Nowadays, besides their wives, by doing fast husbands get involved in this holy ritual praying for their wives’ good-health and in this way, they also show their equal respect to their wives. Thus, this sacred day helps to strengthen one of the blessed relationships in the world. In this annual one-day festival husband and wife cherish their eternal bond. Proper arrangements play a pivotal role in performing such an auspicious ritual. Among such arrangements, decorating Karva chauth ki thali is most important. This thali, generally, consists of one diya (earthen lamp), water-filled Karwa (a pitcher), incense sticks, match sticks, fruits, flowers, food grains, sweets, kumkum, roli, Haldi, chawal, and Chandan. Along with beautiful decoration of that earthen lamp, thalis get adorned ingeniously. With velvet papers, laces, mirror mosaic, flowers, thalis are decorated to enhance divine feeling.
