It is believed that keeping a daylong fast will sweeten the marital relationship, protect the husbands and keep them in good health and prosperity. On the evening of Karwa Chauth, married women break their fast by worshipping the moon by using the ingredients kept in the Karwa Chauth pooja thali. Here are the 10 things that must be kept in a Karwa Chauth Thali: 1.Chaani: It is a large sieve through which the women look at the Moon while performing the pooja. 2.Karwa: This is a Kalash or a steel glass filled with water. After the wife breaks her fast, husbands offer water from the Karwa to them. 3.Sindoor: It symbolizes marriage. It is auspicious to keep the Sindoor in the thali.

  2. 4.Ghee Diyas: Two Ghee Diyas are kept in the thali. One is used during the evening pooja while the other is used to worship the moon. It is placed in the Channi while worshipping the moon. 5.Rice Grains: Rice symbolizes prosperity and is hence used in most Hindu rituals. 6.Fruits: The fruits that are offered during the evening pooja are kept in the thali after the pooja is done. 7.Sweets: It is believed that keeping a sweet in the Karwa Chauth Thali and consuming it after breaking the fast will help in sweetening the married life. 8.Chunni: This is a piece of red cloth that is worn by the woman to cover her head and evade the evil powers. 9.Mathri: This Rajasthani snack item may not be compulsory for every Hindu family but some families use it to break their fast. 10.Baya: It consists of dry fruits, fruits, sweets, and sometimes even a token of money.
