Future initiatives toward IST Program • Reflecting medium terms business operations, Telecom Italia will invest in projects according to the 5 mentioned objectives • 1) Environmental monitoring systems (for instance: air quality forecasting systems available trough “ remotised” common servers • 2) New systems for dissemination to the general public (WAP, UMTS) • 3) Integration of environmental information with other public services • 4) applications for European Environmental networks (based on EIONET) • 5) Innovative Satellite services from Telespazio • Good opportunities from IST programs in “Services for citizens” even if under represented in terms of resources (11 to1 as success ratio) • Critical aspect for large industries in IST proposals: • the “innovation factor” is treated only as technological innovation • casual distribution of expertise during evaluation process • actual evaluation procedures are favouring simple projects, because of lack of time available by the evaluators for complex industrial projects
