  3. Steps that a foreign medical graduate takes before practicing: • Pass Educational Commission for Foreign Medial Graduates (ECFMG) • Get matched with a medical residency program • Take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) • Apply for a medical license

  4. Structure of USMLE • STEP 1 (understanding of the basic scientific concepts essential to understanding medicine) • STEP 2 (focuses on patient care and application of scientific principals, health promotion and disease prevention) - clinical knowledge - clinical skills • STEP 3 (assesses the individual’s readiness to practice without supervision)

  13. Conclusions • Among licensed, male to female ratio is 1:1 • 25% of doctors are employed in academic positions • Most of them regularly attend conferences in the country and abroad • Material standard for all is high
