What Does TIQA Stand For? • T = Topic Sentence • This lets the reader know what your paragraph will be discussing. • I = Introduce the Quote • This sets up the quote that you’ll be discussing. • Consider it a door for the quote to walk through. • Q = Quote • Provide the quote, word for word. • Be sure to use quotation marks. • A = Analysis of Quote • Explain to the reader the importance of the quote and how it supports your topic sentence. • DO NOT JUST SUMMARIZE. You need to explain how the quote relates back to the topic sentence, as well as the main point of the paper.

  3. Example T: MTV’s television series, Jersey Shore, places a group of people in their twenties in a shore house in Seaside Heights, NJ. The cameras follow this group as they go to the beach, work on the boardwalk, and party with each other. I: Cast members of Jersey Shore have created many memorable phrases. One of these phrases is Q: “GTL,” which stands for “Gym, Tan, Laundry.” A: Throughout the show, the cast is filmed going to the gym, laundry mat, and tanning salon. This saying shows that the group places importance on their physical appearance, as well as dressing to impress.

  4. You Try! • Write a 7-9 sentence TIQA paragraph about the your favorite inspirational quote. • Due at the end of the period.
