  2. 21 Balancoires • Balancoires (swings) is an exploration of cooperation using sound. Melody is produced through a group of people interacting at the same time. “It’s a game where, from the start, you need to adjust to the actions of others.”

  4. Created by MounaAndraos and Melissa Mongiat • Daily Tous Les Jours is a Canadian design collective known for their wide variety of interactive public installations and experiences. • 21 Swings was inspired by the designer’s surroundings of a music complex and a science center. • http://www.dailytouslesjours.com/ • Source: http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2012/09/musical-swings-on-the-streets-of-montreal/

  5. Exercise in musical cooperation • Every spring, an interactive installation takes over a high-traffic area in Montréal’s Quartier des spectacles and sets a collective ritual. The installation offers a fresh look at the idea of cooperation, the notion that we can achieve more together than separately. • The result is a giant instrument made of 21 musical swings; each swing in motion triggers different notes, all the swings together compose a piece, but some sounds only emerge from cooperation. • Pre-recorded sounds from a xylophone, piano, and other instruments were programmed into color-coded swings that when in use play various notes, however when swung in unison with careful cooperation, more complex melodies and harmonies arise. An additional “secret mode” was programmed to only play when all 21 swings were in use.  • Source: https://vimeo.com/40980676

  6. The project stimulates ownership of the public space, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds, and creating a place for playing and hanging out in the middle of the city centre. • A traveling version of the project is currently being made for these collective moments to spread around the world. • Source: https://vimeo.com/40980676

  7. 21 Swings juxtaposes the importance of playfulness and human contact against an otherwise independent, urban landscape. It challenges current expectations of public spaces through an interactive installation paired with technology to make it approachable as well as collaborative.

  9. Many of the other telematic projects involving music are e-concerts, like ResoNations concert for peace, which involved 26 artists performing from five international locations.

  10. Singer Daria Musk has harnessed the telematic power of Google+. She became well-known after hosting an 8-hour Hangout concert in August and has since gathered thousands of fans and inspired new tech. 24 Hour Hangout
