  1. The MMI Tools Overview and Demonstration The MMI Tools Carlos Rueda Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute OOS Semantic Interoperability Workshop Marine Metadata Interoperability Project Boulder, CO. Nov 17, 2008

  2. The MMI ToolsOverview and Demonstration • MMI Registry and Repository: Storing, tracking, and accessing your vocabularies • Voc2RDF: Creating a controlled vocabulary • VINE: Mapping terms across vocabularies

  3. Create vocabularyin RDF format Voc2RDF Create term mappingsacross vocabularies Resolvevocabulary URI VINE URI Resolver Using the MMI Tools Register, browse, query, annotate vocabularies MMI Registry & Repository

  4. MMI Registry and Repository • Submit your vocabularies and ontologies • Edit metadata • Submit new versions • Access resources from their URIs • Search • Web service access

  5. An example: Parameters(class) Voc2RDF • Converts your vocabulary in text format into RDF (Resource Description Framework)

  6. mapping Exact match Close match Narrower than Broader than Related match SKOS Simple Knowledge Organization System http://www.w3.org/2004/02/skos/ Mapping Terms Controlledvocabulary B Controlledvocabulary A termX termY High degree of confidence that the conceptscan be used interchangeably across a widerange of information retrieval applications. (transitive, symmetric)

  7. mapping Exact match Close match Narrower than Broader than Related match SKOS Simple Knowledge Organization System http://www.w3.org/2004/02/skos/ Mapping Terms Controlledvocabulary B Controlledvocabulary A termX termY The concepts are sufficiently similar thatthey can be used interchangeably in some information retrieval applications. (symmetric)

  8. mapping Exact match Close match Narrower than Broader than Related match SKOS Simple Knowledge Organization System http://www.w3.org/2004/02/skos/ Mapping Terms Controlledvocabulary B Controlledvocabulary A termX termY 'has the broader concept': the second(object) concept is broader than the first (subject) concept. (transitive)
