  1. Us History[The Legacy of World War II] Jazmarel Brinson Date : April,30th,2013

  2. The UN [Background] • After World War II the UN was formed • The UN replace the Nation Labor Union • The UN was formed for Promote and protect world peace, also was created to help protect from expansion of communism in Europe.

  3. Purpose / Mission • The Mission statement of the UN states how they want United Nations Conference on International Organization, and came into force. To save the succeeding generation from the scourge of war.

  4. Leadership and Membership • Ban Ki Moon is the current secretary- general of the UN • 192 countries are members of the United Nation •  Located on an 18-acre site on the East side of Manhattan

  5. General Assembly • it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues • The General Assembly is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations • Each country get one vote • They make a descion by having meeting from sept-dec.

  6. Security Council • to maintain international peace and security in accordance with the principles and purposes of the United Nations and also to investigate any dispute or situation which might lead to international friction • 5 powerful countries sit on the security council • China , France , United States, Russia, United Kingdom

  7. International Court of Justice • It’s located in the Hague, Netherlands • The International court of Justice main function is to decide on cases submitted by the state.

  8. World Health Organization • The Health Organization headquarters is in Geneva, Switzerland • The Health Organization is to act as a directing and coordinating authority on international health work, to ensure valid and productive technical cooperation, and to promote research.

  9. UNICEF • UNICEF stands for United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund • It was created to help governments improve the health and education of children and their mothers. • UNICEF was created to provide food, clothing, and health care for those who need it. UNICEF provides many types of assistance and help to children and mothers

  10. Summary • I think If they intervene in time and make the opposing sides agree to some sort of peace or treaty. • The United Nations' General Assembly, which includes Issues of war, peace and international security and Decisions of whether to admit applicant nations or expel or suspend member nations ect. , this deals with our safety so I believe General assembly is more important. • Justice is sometimes painful to administer, but with those 5 powers refusing to feel the pain on any issue, Justice is almost non-existant.I think the UN is a good thing overall because it protects us as citizens
