New developments • 2006 – INGC shifted from MFA to MSTA Greater enpahsys placed on mainstreaming DRR in development planning • Contingency planning (incl climate change aspects); • Macro-economic development • Disaster Management Plan (2006-2009) • Part of the Poverty Reduction Plan (2006-2009)

  4. Example: Floods of 2007 • Contingency plan had been prepared (on the basis of NMHSs forecasts) • Financial resources had been allocated • Stocks prepositioned at critical sites • Early warning had been issued • CENOE activated

  5. What needs to be done • Approval of the National Disaster Act (policy approved in 1999) • Incorporation of Climate Change Adaptation into DRR (by 2009)
