  3. Teleconference Voting on PSAC Awards • PSAC used a one-time By-law waiver to conduct Award votes by teleconference. • PSAC Award for 2013 to Richard Temkin (MIT) • Igor Alexeff Outstanding Student in Plasma Science Award to Paul Schmit (Princeton Univ).

Igor Alexeff Outstanding Student in Plasma Science Award • Igor a distinguished scientist, inventor, teacher • Founded PSAC, hosted first ICOPS, promoted plasma engineering in many ways • Also contributed significantly to NPSS in its early years • Died recently from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) • Action underway to rename PSAC Outstanding Student Award in his honor • Proposed by PSAC • Endorsed by NPSS • Endorsed by TABARC • Passed by TAB

  5. Recent ICOPS • ICOPS 2011 closed out*. • ICOPS 2012 several items yet to be submitted. * ICOPS 2011 Conference Chair assures me conference is closed, but NPSS audit continuing.

  6. Pulsed Power Plasma Science 2013 is a Joint Conference Between ICOPS and PPS • Conference Venue is the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, California • June 16-21, 2013 • Conference Chair: Bryan Oliver, Sandia National Laboratories • Technical co-Chair: Mark Crawford, LANL • Technical co-Chair: John Verboncoeur, Michigan State Univ • Conference website: http://www.ece.unm/ppps2013 Google Search: PPPS 2013 • Mini-course organized by John Giuliani on 15-16 June.

  7. Federal Budget Sequestration will significantly effect PPPS2013 • Past Joint ICOPS/PPS conferences indicated that 1100 attendees was reasonable expectation: • To date, 989 + 44 “draft” abstracts submitted. • Corresponding authors amount to 814 potential attendees. • Grants from Federal Agencies/Institutions are being suspended or cancelled. • Conference Income could fall well below expectations. • Conference Organizers are already taking Proactive Steps: Room Block at the Conference Hotel has been re-negotiated. Social Functions (Night Out, Breakfasts, Banquet) to be scaled-back or cancelled. Direct abstract solicitation being conducted.
