Irony & The Necklace • Situational Irony can be when parts of a story turn out differently than what we expect • Write the following events from the story and explain how they are ironic (show irony) • Mrs. Loisel believing that she is poor at the story’s beginning • Mr. Loisel worrying and having a hard time about giving 400 Francs to his wife • The necklace turning out to be fake

Foreshadowing & The Necklace • Foreshadowing is hints or clues the author gives a reader about the end of a story • In stories with surprise endings, foreshadowing becomes even more important • Working with the person next to you… • Create a list of clues the author gave us that hint at the necklace being fake • Explain how each clue hints at the necklace being a fake
