ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM UNIVERSITY OF MACEDONIA The first verified application of an EMS to an Organization in the Greek Public Sector and also the first to a Greek University EMAS registration: 2005 Beginning: 01/09/2002 The first two years of the efforts were co-financed by the European Commission through the LIFEEnvironment program

Its premises are located in the heart of Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece. At present, the University of Macedonia has eight departments that deliver eight post-graduate programs and six graduate programs

4. University of Macedonia The total number of students enrolled in all post and graduate programs is 13.828. Students’ enrolment exhibits a very high growth rate over the years. Equally high is staff’s growth. Today it numbers 531 people, from which 235 belong to teaching staff and the rest to administration.

Technical improvements, and improved behavior Environmental Information programs for staff and students Improved food safety in the University’s restaurant through a Food Safety Management System (HACCP) Improved Health, hygiene and Safety at work, for staff and students Environmental educational program for primary students in the Environmental Information Kiosk Dissemination of knowledge and awareness-raising activities
