  1. BUILD’sHistory • In 1969, two street-gang outreach workers founded BUILD as a street intervention program after government funding was terminated for their work at the Division Street YMCA. • BUILD, Inc. has worked in some of Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods giving at-risk youth alternatives to the violence that takes away their positive potential. • We have supported more than 80,000 young people to lead more productive lives. Many former program participants who have gone on to successful careers as attorneys, educators, policemen, firemen, and government employees identify BUILD programming as a key source of their success. Mission, Vision & Core Values • Mission: BUILD engages at-risk youth in the schools and on the streets so they can realize their educational and career potential and contribute to the stability, safety and well being of our communities. • Vision: By 2020, BUILD will be sought out as the premier provider of proven-effective youth development services targeted for at-risk youth and communities. As we realize this, our youth will be motivated and equipped with the tools to utilize educational and community resources that will assist them in achieving social mobility. • Values: Diversity, Respect, Open, Honest Communication, Trust, Teamwork Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development
