  1. Vastra-Samman(Sept. 27th – Oct. 3rd ’09)A nationwide initiative by Bringing home the power of re-use,turning cities excess into a much needed development resource for the villages of India.

  2. VASTRA-SAMMAN • A platform bringing together people from all walks of life: encouraging them to get involved by contributing material & by spreading the word about the concept. • Turning urban household material from a charitable material into a powerful development resource. • Restoring the self respect and dignity of village communities by empowering them to work on their own issues and receive the material as reward. • Highlighting to the urban masses the significant role their old material can play in the life of millions of people.

Campaign highlights • Being initiated in 25 big and small cities of India including metros, mini metros & small towns. • Targeting to raise around 1 crore (10 million) units of material/ 300-500 trucks of material in a week’s time. • Going among the masses; motivating people to give their new/old household material for a cause. • Involving different stakeholders: hundreds of schools, collages, corporates, individuals, NGO’s media houses are getting involved in this first of its kind campaign. • Generating massive resources for pan India development work; the collected material will help initiate many development activities like road repair, digging of wells, building bridges, cleaning villages etc. in the villages of India (Cloth for Work programme). • Thousands of kids will be getting school material(School to School programme), while thousands of women will be getting napkins, made out of waste cotton cloth (Not just a piece of cloth programme), saving them from monthly indignity and health risk.

  4. GOONJ Collection/ Processing Plan • Cities for active collection from people/exporters- 25 • Processing centers- 15 • Total collection points in these cities- minimum 100 + centers initiated by schools, residential societies, corporates etc. • Active collection period- 3 days i.e. October 1st to 3rd • Proposed Cities- ( Subject to change) • Total quantity expected over 300 trucks

  5. Support the Initiative • Full/Partial monetary support- Estimated expense 73 Lakhs • Provide Space a. Processing Center: One each city, 2000 sq ft for 1 to 6 months, starting September end. b. Collection Centers: Many in each city, 200 sq. ft. + at a prominent location. For 5 days (Oct.1st to 5th) • Logistic Support a. Within a city: Transport from different collection centers to a central place in a city. b. Reaching the processing center cities and villages – transporting material to processing center cities and villages. (spread over three months to a year till Dec 2010) • Call Centre/Helpline/Tool Free Number- to manage incoming calls from Sept. 15th till Oct.15th • 25 Working Laptops - with good battery back up for all the 25 centers • 25 recharged data card (for 3 months) • About 200 activated/charged mobile sim cards: to connect the GOONJ team across 25 cities. (for 1 to 3 months).

Initiate a camp.. • Get in touch with us on ruchikagoonj@gmail.comor jagritygoonj@gmail.com • We’ll send you the required leaflets and posters etc. through mail and if needed hardcopies • You can organize a Vastra-Samman Collection Camp during, before or after the Joy of Giving Week, but do inform us the dates. • The details of what we are collecting in this campaign are mentioned in the leaflet. We are collecting clothes, school material, footwear, dry ration, utensils, newspapers and magazines, old bicycles, umbrella, spectacles, toys, games & monetary contributions. • Do motivate people to give at least a rupee with every unit they contribute, to cover the cost of processing and further transportation etc. • We’ll have all the contact details of 25 cities on www.goonj.info by the end of September. Please coordinate closely with our local GOONJ city coordinator and at the end of collection please send the material to a GOONJ centre. • We do not have any pick up facility in as we are using our limited resources in the rigorous sorting, processing and using this material under Cloth for Work and other initiatives, in remote villages. • You can certainly initiate a campaign in other cities (apart from the short listed 25 cities) provided you can send the material till Oct. 15th to any one of these 25 cities, since we will be winding up from many cities by the 15th October

  7. For Financial contributions.. To run this nationwide campaign, to process and reach the collected material to the remote villages across India, GOONJ requires a sum of about Rs. 73.00 lakh. Many organizations have joined the campaign, supporting us in kind & services but financial contributions have yet to come.. so every penny matters… Donations in India- Please send cash/cheque/draft in the name of GOONJ and send it to J-93, Sarita Vihar, New Delhi- 76 (Kindly send your full name, address & Pan No. with the contribution for receipt/accounting purpose. ( All donations to GOONJ in India are tax exempted u/s 80 G of IT act.) During the campaign you can also send the money to an authorized GOONJ collection center in the city against official receipt. We’ll be uploading a list of authorized center on www.goonj.info by the last week of September. Volunteering Opportunities… Spare just a few hours & see how much change each one of us can make.. • Provide free media/advertising space in any media (local magazine/newsletter/papers). • Spread the message to your friends, colleagues, neighborhood, customer base/masses.Use any communication/interaction tools including emails, packing, bills etc. • Connect usto individuals, academic institutes, schools, corporates, media for space, volunteers, logistics, packing material, finances, stationery & one-side used paper. • In-house Vastra Samman collection drive in your office, schools, colleges, residential colony, market complex etc. - Involve various other stakeholders like suppliers, exporters, buying house, etc. to join us. • Contribute old Newspapers- one of the major items to be collected, to fund a substantial part of the campaign through sale of these newspapers. A big example of power of recycling and a good way to involve the masses. • Redirect your dead inventory-Appeal to all your customers to give us their dead inventory. From basic medicines to school material, clothing, tooth paste, tooth brush; any and everything. Our consumption timeline is 3 to 6 months, anything within that timeline is a good resource. • Let us know- of credible NGOs, organizations working in slums and villages. We are in the process of expanding our beneficiary base across the country. • Manage the campaign in 25 cities- • City Campaign Coordinator for 3 months to take care of the whole movement in your city • Join the GOONJ team 24X7 for 4 to 10 days (last week of Sept to first week of Oct) • Manage Vastra Samman Collection centers in any of the 25 shortlisted cities (list enclosed). Means full time commitment from Sept 30th till 4th Oct which includes taking charge of the center, database management and interaction with people.. sounds tough? Believe us- its fun.. we have been doing it for years… • Add your city- if you are not from our shortlisted cities, you can still get involved. Just let us know before hand and we’ll send you all the relevant material including authorization letter. Just make sure your city’s people take care of transporting material to one of these 25 cities.
