  5. 4c: Communicating with Families • The indicators of 4c include: • Frequent and culturally appropriate information sent home regarding the instructional program and student progress • Two-way communication between the teacher and families • Frequent opportunities for families to engage in the learning process

  6. 4c: Communicating with Families • The elements of 4c include: • Information about the instructional program • Information about individual students • Engagement of families in the instructional program

  7. Diving Deeper • The difference between “Proficient” and “Distinguished” relies on student involvement • Think About: How can you take one of your parent communication methods and extend it so that students play a role?

  8. Difficult Situations • Choose one slip of paper out of the container on your table. • After reading your scenario, respond to each of the questions on your response card. • Be ready to share out your responses in a few minutes.

  9. Apply to Your Practice • At your next team meeting, bring at least one resource you use to communicate or document communication with parents. It can be one you’ve created or one you’ve found/adapted from the shared link. • As a team, discuss how each resource could be adapted to include students as communicators.
