  1. KAMAL EYE HOSPITAL UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CATARACTS WWW.KAMALEYEHOSPITAL.COM

  2. Things to discuss • Types of cataracts • Nuclear Sclerotic Cataract • Cortical Cataract • Posterior Subcapsular Cataract

  3. Most people think that cataract surgery is a very generic surgery, but in actual the level of criticality, post-surgery care, and the recovery time depends on the type of cataract surgery. It’s true that despite the types the lenses of our eye get affected when the cataract onsets but the nature and direction of damages define three different types of cataract.

  4. Yes, there are mainly three types of cataracts.

  5. NUCLEAR SCLEROTIC CATARACT. This is the most common type of cataract that people experience with aging. The central point of our eyes is referred to as the ‘nucleus.’ With aging, this part becomes cloudy and gets harden over time. The occurrence of hardening is called, ‘Sclerosis.’ The progression of clouding is very slow in the case of nuclear sclerotic cataracts.

  6. CORTICAL CATARACT. This type of cataract affects the lens cortex, the peripheral outside edge of our eye lens. In the case of this cataract condition, the content of water content in the lens gets altered and causes clefts. It generated a structure like spokes of a cycle wheel going inward to the lens center from the edge. The light entering into the lens gets scattered due to such defective structure generating a blurred vision.

  7. POSTERIOR SUBCAPSULAR CATARACT. This cataract attacks the small opaque in the posterior of the lens. A small sac-like structure called a capsule experience a ‘halo effect’ and ‘glares’ around light sources. This decreases the clarity of vision while reading books, watching TV, or driving. This type of cataract is less common but the occurrence rate is high in case patients taking steroids, suffering from long-term retinitis pigmentosa, and diabetes. The development of the Posterior Subcapsular Cataract is more rapid compared to the other two types and the surgery includes a greater amount of risk and longer recovery time.

  8. So that’s all about the basis of three types of cataract. In case of any further query, feel free to write to me. Start a healthy new year.
