  1. Sunflowers and Acid Rain Anthony Rodriguez period 55-1-12

  2. Introduction • The purpose of this experiment was to find out what happens when you water sunflower seeds with 10% Vinegar water and Tap water. We were trying to find out what the results would be if it would grow or wither. The control was the tap water and the variable was 10% vinegar water.

  3. Materials • Plastic cup • super growing pellets • Triple beams balance scale • Sunflower seeds • Water • Ruler • Data sheet

  4. Method • Add super growing pellets to cup. • Add 3 tablespoons of water to expand • Plant 3 seeds of water to expand • Weigh cup on triple beam balance. Record weight. • Add tap water or Vinegar water to cup. Weigh again and record data. • Cup will be placed under grow light. • Observe the container daily and note any indications of growth(by observations and measurement) and compare to other containers in the experiment. While observing indicate any special care given to the plant. (Did you need to add more • or less water? Did you need to rotate the plant?) • Record observations, measurements, and comments in the plant growth diary. Once the plant begins to grow, you will need to draw a detailed picture of the plant including the appearance of leaves and stems. • Each day , repeat steps 3 through 8.

  5. Scientific method • Ask a Question • State Your Hypothesis • Identify Control & Variable • Test Your Hypothesis • Collect & Record Your Data's • Interpret Your Data • State Your Conclusion

  6. Ask a question • What if some days you added tap and other days you added 10% vinegar water?

  7. State The Hypothesis • If I plant a sunflower seed I think that depending on what water you use it will flourish or wither.

  8. Identify Control and Variable • The control uses tap water and the Variable uses 10% Vinegar water.

  9. Test Your Hypothesis • If I add tap water to my sunflower seed, then it will flourish because the water will become food to the seed and it will grow.

  10. Collect and Record The Data

  11. Interpret The Data

  12. State the Conclusion • The results of this lab did not support my hypothesis instead of it growing it withered. I learned that to grow a plant you have to take proper care of it.
