Clustering The power of high-throughput analysis does not come from the analysis of single genes, but rather, from the analysis of many data points to identify patterns of gene expression • Genes that are contained in a particular pathway, or that respond to a common environmental challenge, should be co-regulated and show similar patterns of expression • Symmetrically, samples having similar intrinsic molecular properties should share common patterns of gene expression
