  9. 11/30/1899 Dawson, Alaska Dawson Daily News A boy named Jaz Helter has saved a dog in a tree the dog was about to die from the cold. Jax got a medal for being brave and courageous for saving the dog. The dogs owner is found and we found out his name of the dog is Buster. Sam Pelten has got in jail for robbing a store. We think there is someone else that has helped him. We are still trying to find out. We will tell you more on this story. Today top story is the interview of the Irishmen. Interviewer are Kaylee, Sarah, Adam, and Peyton.

  10. The interview of the Irishmen. “Why did you become a stampeder?” “My dad was one and he was mean he abused me and hurt me. We were very poor so we had no choice but to join the stampeders. My mom died when I was 4 and made most of the money. I think that the poor should be helped but anyone who doesn’t help need to be punished.”

  11. The interview of the Irishmen. “Why did you shoot at Walt?” “I needed money for my dad. He would of been so mad that i did get the gold. He is too old to be a stampeder so I have to do it. I would do anything for money.”

  12. The interview of the Irishmen. “ Why would you want to hurt a kid?” “ When they mess with me yes, but when you put it in that way it sounds bad. I put the a way like he trying to get the claim I was going to get. Im not the bad guy Walt is.”

  13. The interview of the Irishmen. “ What did you do when Walt’s led dog got shoot?” “ I was happy but when he got out lead dog and flip it.”

  14. The interview of the Irishmen. “ Did you know that Walt spied on you?” “ No, I didn’t but when he took my sled I knew that this guy would go to jail so I was not as upset as I should.”

  16. Interview Joe Slone: So Walt I’m going to ask you some questions. First question- How did you feel when the Irishman was about to jump on your sled? Walt: Well, of course, I wasn’t scared. (Ok maybe a little bit) I knew that if they caught me they would kill me. So I had to think quick.

  17. Interview Joe Slone: Here’s my next question- What made you decide, when you were picking a lead dog, which one to pick? Walt: Well I didn’t have much time to pick. So I chose one that looked like a good lead dog. I soon regretted my choice, apparently the dog was never trained to be a leader.

  18. Interview Joe Slone: Next question- How did you feel when you heard that the stampeders were going to jump Loren Hall’s claim? Walt: Well I thought that was unfair! Loren Hall went through all of that work to find gold, and those stampeders were going to take it. I just knew that I had to do something.

  19. Interview Joe Slone: Here’s the fourth question- How did you feel when the stampeders started shooting? Walt: To be honest, I was terrified! I thought that one of the bullets would hit me. I tried to keep my head low. You can’t imagine how relieved I was when I Iost them.

  20. Interview Joe Slone: Here’s my final question- Do you think it would have been easier if your father had been there? Walt: Yes it would have, for two reasons. First of all we could have taken our dogs and the stampeders wouldn’t have even known. Second Dad would have known what to do if they were following us.

  21. Interviewing the Lead Dog Jeff Ubetcha: Hi, this is Jeff Ubetcha interviewing the Lead Dog from The King of Mazy May. We asked our viewers to give us some questions that we could ask you and you could answer. First question, Did you like the Stampedersbefore Walt stole you? Lead Dog: It’s a pleasure as usual. To answer your question, yes, I loved them like my own family. They taught me that what they do is an okay thing to do. Sure, I believed them. Little did I know that they were hurting other dog’s owners, and that just made me feel like a junkyard bull. Although I still let them do this even though I could’ve just run away like what the good dog would do.

  22. Jeff Ubetcha: Okay, that was a great answer, now for question number two! So this next question is from Sarah Porkbelly in Las Vegas. Did you like being the lead dog? Lead Dog: Yes I loved being the lead dog because it gives me a chance to show what this dog can really do! Although there are some downsides, the Stampeders expect me to be the best dog around and always be the fastest. One time the big Irishman yelled at me because I was out of breath and taking a break. It can be very disturbing.

  23. Jeff Ubetcha: Oh my, this is probably the weirdest question I’ve ever seen. This one is from Charlie Wetworth from Tampa, Florida. Were the Stampeders easier to carry on a sled or was Walt Masters? Lead dog: Well, honestly I guess that Walt was lighter and easier. That’s probably only because he is fourteen and not a two-hundred ninety pound men.

  24. Jeff Ubetcha: Next question, wow this comes from a girl who asks, how did you feel when the other dog got shot by the Stampeders? Lead Dog: Oh my, yes I remember the whole thing, I still have nightmares about it. He was my best friend, and I loved him. If I could figure out how to get back at the Stampeders, I would.

  25. Jeff Ubetcha: Last and final question, this comes from a boy from Ohio, did that night teach you any life lessons as a lead dog? Lead Dog: I learned that you should always trust your instincts and do the right thing. Another thing I learned is that you should never steal others people’s items that they worked hard on.

  27. Walt’s Dad Interviewed By: Briley, Sophie, and Taylor

  28. How did you feel about leaving Walt alone at home by himself? • “Well I didn’t really feel that good about it but I knew I could trust him because I felt he was responsible enough.”

  29. What was your reaction when you heard about everything that happened? • “Well I was quite shocked but my boy was brave and he’s alive so that’s all that matters.”

  30. Why did you trust Walt so much? • “Well, I see a lot of me in him. So I trust he that he makes the same choices as I would.

  31. Since your wife isn’t their to be the mom do you kind of play both roles as a parent? Well yes I know Walt’s mothers death was really hard on Walt so I try to be both the mother and the father even though it’s a hard task

  32. When you left did you ever think any of this would’ve happened with the stampeders? No I never had a thought of this happening but I am just glad Walt is okay
