  1. Cambodia Climate Change Toolkit

  2. Contents • Introduction • Toolkit overview • Using the Query Tool • Accessing the Threat Profiles

  3. Introduction • The Cambodia Climate Change Toolkit is an open-source information portal which provides projections for climate parameters in Cambodia at the country, provincial, district, and local levels. • The projections are based on 2012 climate change data downscaled to the region by the Mekong Adaptation and Resilience to Climate Change Project (http://icem.com.au/portfolio-items/mekong-arcc/). • The tool is web-browser based and requires an internet connection (tested with IE 11, Chrome 54, Firefox 50, Opera 41). • Climate change variables include seasonal average maximum temperature and total seasonal precipitation for a baseline period (1985-2005) and mid-century projection. The toolbox results include the expected changes from the baseline period to mid-century for each variable.

  4. Toolkit overview • The current toolkit includes two primary options: Query tool and Threat Profiles • Query Tool (homepage): allows user to query climate change variables either by province, at a specific point location, or within a specified boundary box • Threat Profiles: The threat profiles present climate change variable maps and bullet-point summaries of expected conditions and impacts of climate change, along with tables ranking the provinces and districts for each variable change. Threat profiles are available both for the entire country and for specific provinces.

  5. Tool layout: • Option box • Selection method • Select scenario • Select period • Map box • Zoom button • Information box • Results box • Other information • Knowledge base • Acknowledgments • Logos • Cambodia CC threat profile Query tool

  6. Using the Query Tool • As mouse hovers over map, the name of the province will be displayed at top-right of the map • The provinces will be highlighted as you hover the mouse when using the “By province” selection method • To view province summary results: click on the map—the tool will show the specific province climate change projections in the results box on the right. • The results box will also include a button to access the province threat profile

  7. Using the Query Tool • The “By exact location” selection mode allows the user to query climate change projections at a specific point location by clicking on the desired location. A pin point will appear at the selected location. • The user can use map navigation features (zoom in, zoom out, pan) to explore the map

  8. Using the query tool • The “By bounding box” selection mode allows user to query average climate change projections for a specified box region • To create a bounding box, user must click once to mark the first corner and then click again to mark the second corner. The corner coordinates of the bounding box will appear in the results box.

  9. Accessing threat profiles • There are two types of threat profiles: country wide threat profile and province specific threat profiles. • The country profile is accessed by clicking on “Cambodia Climate Change Threat Profile” in the upper right corner of the main page • Province specific profiles are accessed from the results box when a province is selected with the “By Province” query tool selection method • From the threat profile browser, user can select the climate change variable to show on the map and adjust the map transparency

  10. Accessing threat profiles • Bullet point summaries of expected conditions and impacts of climate change are shown for the province threat profiles. • The threat profiles also include a table of average climate change variables by province (for the country threat profile) or by district (for the province threat profiles). • Clicking on the table variable headers will rank the provinces/districts by those most/least affected by the selected variable • The user can download the result maps for each climate change variable (located at bottom of table)
