  2. Introduction • Meet Barbara... • Age: 42 • Sex: Barbara is female, but could potentially be either • Education: College graduate. M.Ed in technology related educational field Occupation: Certified High School teacher; possible technology coordinator • Why Barbara needs Apps4edu.org:   • She is a busy teacher with limited time and resources. • She wants an easy way to find Apps for use in the classroom. • She wants to collaborate with other educators about good apps for classroom use. • She is willing to share her experiences using Apps in the classroom.

  3. The Problem ... “How many are useful for the classroom? Perhaps not as many as you might think and you have to find them.”  (Education Week, February 9, 2011) • As of April 18, 2011 56,400 Applications (aka Apps) identified for use in education were available. “By December 2010, Common Sense Media had reviewed more than 600 apps. But like much of the educational app world,most of the reviews focus on applications designed for consumption by parents and small children, rather than students and their teachers.”  (Education Week, February 9, 2011)

A Visit to iTunes • It shouldn't be this difficult. • Search for "chemistry 10th grade free"; no results • A search for "chemistry" returns 309 Apps, including • "Love Chemistry", "Dynamic Goodness", "J-Map Symbol Quiz", "English - Spanish Medical Dictionary", "Test Maker", etc. • Can't see rating. • Can't filter results. • Can't save Apps for further study.

Project Goals • Search for and locate educational Apps based on subject, grade level and cost and rating. • Assess Apps based on ratings, reviews, screen shots and demos • Rate Apps and provide feedback to developers and other teachers • Foster a community to share knowledge, expertise and experience with eductional apps.
