  2. Look at the word below and read it to yourself. Read it out loud when I point to it attendant Turn and tell your partner what parts you recognize in this word.   4. Let’s try it with a few more words. Look at each of the words below, and with your partner find the root word and the suffix. For example, the root word of comedian is comedy, but the final ymust be dropped before adding –ian.

  5. Try a few more. Draw a chart like the one below. Then, with your partner find the root and the suffix in each word. Next, blend them back together to read the word. serve -ant differ -ent engine -eer biology -ist music -ian Tell your partner which of the above root words have a different spelling when the suffix is added. serve, engine, biology

  6. Look in a realistic fiction book to find words with the –ant, -ent, -eer, -ist, and –iansuffixes. Find at least 1 word for each suffix. List the words and underline the suffixes.
