  2. Covering & Surrounding Investigation 1.3 • Objective: Develop formulas for the area and perimeter of a rectangle. Launch Let’s read through Problem 1.3 on page 8. Vocabulary: Dimensions of a rectangle = length & width Looking at Lab Sheet 1.3. Tell me the dimensions or the length and width of a rectangle you can make with 18 floor tiles.

  3. Explore • Let’s read on about decoding designs. • In your groups, complete A-D. • Be prepared to share.

  4. Summarize • What were your strategies for finding area? • What were your strategies for finding perimeter? Area of a Rectangle:Area = length X Width A = lw Area of a Rectangle: Perimeter = 2 X Lengths + 2 X Widths P = 2l + 2w

Covering and Surrounding 4.1 • Launch: • Where the base and the height on a triangle? • What can measures of the base and height tell you? • With triangles you can label different bases and heights on one triangle. How can I change the position of the parallelograms in the Getting Ready and label a different base and height for each one?
