New Teacher evaluation Model Practice Tenured • 0 long observation and 3 short are required. • Multiple Observers are recommended • Classroom Observations • Short Observation are 20 minutes long. • Long observations are 40 minutes long Non-Tenured • Teachers that are in year 1-2 need 2 long and 1 short observations • Teacher that are in year 3-4 need 2 short and 1 long observations • Multiple observers required http://www.state.nj.us/education/AchieveNJ/intro/RegOverview.pdf

Teacher Evaluation SGO • Student growth objective is set of academic goals set by each teacher for their students at the beginning of each school year. • Can be based on • state or LEA-developed assessments • Rubric-measured portfolios or • performance assessments • Student Growth • SGO’s or SGP’s SGP • Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs) measure how much a student has learned from one year to the next compared to peers with similar academic history from across the state. • Based on NJ ask scores http://www.state.nj.us/education/AchieveNJ/intro/RegOverview.pdf

Tenure Law 18A A teacher will receive tenure if he/she has • (1)  Four  consecutive  calendar  years;  or   • (2)  Four  consecutive  academic  years,  together  with  employment  at  the  beginning  of  the  next  succeeding   academic  year;  or   • (3)  The  equivalent  of  more  than  four  academic  years  within  a  period  of  any  five  consecutive  academic   years. • In  order  to  achieve  tenure  a  teacher  shall  also  complete  a  district   mentorship  program  during  the  initial  year  of  employment  and  receive  a  rating  of  effective  or  highly   effective  in  two  annual  summative  evaluations  within  the  first  three  years  of  employment.   http://law.onecle.com/new-jersey/18a-education/28-5.html

  8. Tenure Law 18A cont. Teachers that receive a rating of ineffective or partially effective for 1 years will be placed on a corrective plan. Tenure Non-tenure • CAP- Corrective Action Plan • Teachers with Partially Effective or Ineffective summative ratings must receive more intensive supervision through a Corrective Action Plan (CAP). Once these teachers have increased their summative ratings to at least the Effective range, they no longer require a CAP. However, in circumstances where a tenured teacher's rating does not improve, they may lose their tenure. • TIP- Teacher Improvement Plan • The Teacher Improvement Plan (TIP) is designed to provide support through communication, discussion and collaboration in the area (s) of significant concern. The administrator and teacher will jointly determine the strategies to be taken to overcome the deficiencies, but it is agreed that the primary responsibility for correction of the deficiencies remains with the teacher.
