University of Nairobi (College of Agric.) Egerton University Kenyatta University Jomo Kenytta University (JKUAT) Kenya Federation of Agric. Producers International Centre for Development-oriented Research in Agriculture (ICRA)

    4. 4 IAR4D Current Organisational Structure KARI is the Coordinating institution Taskforce of 8 representatives of partner institutions Core Team of 13 multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional professionals “Unknown” number of ICRA Alumni who could be brought on board

    5. 5 IAR4D Organisational Structure: Justification Taskforce has largely completed the initial task (Core Team training) Need to transform Taskforce into a more formal and sustainable organ Core Team has “outgrown” its title with increased need for partnership expansion Need to position itself to respond to the rapidly changing R&D landscape

    6. 6 IAR4D Organisational Structure: The changing R&D landscape Vision 2030 – Implications on IAR4D Strategy for Revitalising Agriculture (SRA) and its Implementation framework NARSP and its implementation framework NASEP and its implementation framework Proliferation of public and private universities and agric-oriented tertiary educational institutions Product value chains, commercialisation of Agriculture Public Private Partnerships (PPP)

    7. 7 IAR4D Organisational Structure: An option A National IAR4D Programme with: Broad-based, multi-sectoral and multi-institutional representation National Steering Committee with representatives from sectors or institutions (overall coordination, linkage with parents and pro-active sourcing of funds) National IAR4D Secretariat drawn from Steering Committee, representing sectors (rapid response to issues ahead of NSC) Institutional home? Consider the changing agricultural R&D landscape.
