About the project… • GOALS: • -Prevent xenophobia and racism among high school students • -Provide the opportunity for foreigners, minorities groups and high school students to meet face to face in the classroom environment METHODS: -Interactive and experiential LOCATIONS: • 5 regions within the Czech Republic: Central Bohemia, South Bohemia, Pilsen, Karlovy Vary, Hradec Králove

  3. We offer… FOR STUDENTS: -Intercultural Seminar -Series of Intercultural Workshops -Experiential Training -Miniworkcamp FOR EDUCATORS: -One-day seminars on intercultural education,including the project's methodology

  4. Intercultural Seminar • One-time 90 minute seminar • Topics include: • “normal” vs. “different” • First impressions, the halo effect, stereotypes • Multicultural society and acceptance of people from different cultures • Volunteering

  5. Series of Intercultural Workshops • Series of three interactive workshops (90-minutes each) which build on each other • Topics include: • Workshop 1:How do we see others? What is a first impression? What are stereotypes? How do we create stereotypes? How does the media influence us? • Workshop 2:What are our life values? How do we form our own attitudes and opinions? • Workshop 3:What is the difference between discrimination and racism? What are some guidelines for “constructive discussion”? How can we master the art of arguing and defending one’s personal opinion?

  6. MiniWorkcamp • Volunteering: 10-hours of voluntary community service work • Teamwork in an intercultural environment • Interactive games focused on intercultural education

  7. Experiential Training • Non-academic rural environment • In-depth exploration of topics • Incorporation of experiential education tools

Project Partners • Multikulturní centrum Praha (www.mkc.cz): information portal on migration, (MigraceOnline.cz), intercultural and development education (in cooperation with schools in India), cultural programs for the public, workshops, courses, international conferences, expert debates, articles, publications, lending library open to the public • AFS Intercultural Programs (www.afs.cz): member of the worldwide AFS network, coordinator of exchange programs for high school students around the world and volunteer opportunities across the Czech Republic, including programs for foreign students • INEX – Association for Voluntary Activities (www.inexsda.cz): international volunteer opportunities, international workcamps (social integration, environmental education, rural development), development education
