The Transforming East Alabama Mathematics (TEAM) grant project is aimed at improving education and student performance in Math across East Alabama through a partnership of teachers and university faculty engaged in ongoing professional development activities throughout the school year and during summer institutes and academies.
is creating a cadre of full-time teachers in high-needs schools who have the potential to make a significant impact on mathematics instruction among their colleagues.
Fellows work together to improve their own mathematical and pedagogical content knowledge and learn how to effectively lead efforts for improving instruction in their school and district by working on an advanced degree in the field and participating in leadership workshops with colleagues.
This project conducted a review of textbook materials for their alignment with the new Alabama College and Career Ready Standards, Alabama’s state course of study that is based on the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
Over 50 teachers from 14 districts in the area participated in reviewing textbook series across the grades, resulting in a final report released to local schools and districts to aid them in their review of textbooks.
Collaborations among several Colleges and Departments at AU such as Nursing and Nutrition have involved C&T faculty in planning and site visits to determine the needs and scope of this international outreach project.
