  1. Civil Rights Act of 1964 Components *During the last 50 years, what do YOU think have been the key achievements of the 1964 Civil Rights Act?

  2. Voting requirements are the same for all people • Ensures the Constitutional right to vote • Voting Rights Act of 1965 * * Title I (1)

  3. Outlawed discrimination in all public places • Examples: *hotels *restaurants *theaters • Justice Department could sue any of the above that are segregated. Title II (2)

  4. Access to public facilities COULD NOT be denied based on race, religion, or national origin Title III (3)

  5. Required that public schools no longer be segregated (separated) Title IV (4)

  6. Gave more powers to the Civil Rights Commission to regulate (make sure) that the act was being followed Title V (5)

  7. Outlawed discrimination by government agencies • Examples: • *housing • *benefits Title VI (6)

  8. Outlawed discrimination by employers based on race, gender, religion, or national origin Title VII (7)

  9. Required that voter data and registration information be provided to the government Title VIII (8)

  10. Allowed civil rights lawsuits to be moved from local courts to federal courts Title IX (9)
