  1. Needful actions and necessary preparations to move the program implementation of MTCP-II BANGLADESH

  2. Agriculture of Bangladesh • Contribution to GDP is about 20% • 47.5% labour force are engaged • Per capita land: 12.5 decimals • 1% of farm land is losing every year • Annual loss of rice 0.86 to 1.16% • Hybrid and GMOs are threatening

  3. Farmers of Bangladesh • Farmers are not getting fair and just price for their products • Middlemen are getting the benefits • Farmers are not getting adequate services from the government

  4. Farmers’ Organizations • There are some FOs active in this country • They are not able to deliver the right services • FAO has identified 198114 FOs • 81% formed with support from government agencies • 14% formed with support from national NGOs • 5% formed with support from international NGOs • 0.01% formed autonomously.

  7. Activities implemented so far Monthly Review meeting of MTCP 2 in Bangladesh Pre Budget Seminar Issue Based Mobilization: Post budget Press Conference Sharing meeting with farmers’ wing of political parties Training on Financial Management

  8. Financial Status Total Received: BDT 7,73,300 (BDT 77=$ 1) Total Expenditure: BDT 7,06,588. Burn Rate: 91.37%

Key Results • Participant organizations have been able to identify their present status, challenges and they have taken strategic plan to build their own capacity. • From organizational level assessment all the FOs are now well known about their organizational status and where to go and how • FOs activities have been able to revamp field level status. • A strong network has been build among the key Farmers Organizers

Key Results and Challenges • From various training and meeting capacities of leaders have been strengthened • Access to the policy makers for the FOs have been enhanced • CSOs involvement with Farmers’ movement has been strengthened • Agriculture and farmer related issues have been focused in the national and local media. • Challenges • The fund receiving process has taken a long period. The first quarters’ activities were hampered due to fund crises. • Some government policies are there which are hampering our advocacy initiatives
