  2. The Evaluation Myth “I don’t need to justify my existence, I have a proven track record.” - Phillips, 1991

  3. Kirkpatrick's Four Levels Evaluation at this level measures how participants in a training program react to it. This type of evaluation is often called a “smilesheet.” Did they like it? Was the material relevant to their work?

  4. Kirkpatrick's Four Levels Assessing at this level moves the evaluation beyond learner satisfaction and attempts to assess the extent trainees have advanced in skills, knowledge, or attitude. Did they learn the material?

  5. Kirkpatrick's Four Levels Are the newly acquired skills, knowledge, or attitude being used in the everyday environment of the learner? This level measures the transfer that has occurred in trainees' behavior due to the training program.

  6. Kirkpatrick's Four Levels Frequently thought of as the bottom line, this level measures the success of the program in terms that managers and executives can understand What was the Return-on-Investment for the program?

  7. Data (Where do I find it?) Hard Data • Output (in basic work units) • Quality (quality of the output) • Cost (operating, administrative, and capital expenditures) • Time (savings) *** If these are not available *** try to convert soft data

  8. Data (Where do I find it?) Soft Data • Work Habits • New Skills • Work Climate • Development/Advancement • Feeling/Attitudes • Initiative
