ERP class systems. Lecture. Introduction. Previous lecture was an introduction of the term and idea of integrated computer systems. The following lecture is to introduce the most common IT system supporting management and its functions. ERP.
ERP = Enterprise Resources Planning
the module is a part of a system data base. It is important because product structure is crucial for planning. The module is supposed to support to adjust structure to limitations of planning model.
the module is supposed to generate plans of company’s performance , both long and short-term.
the module supporting data flow between marketing and short-term planning (Master Schedule);
the module supporting short-term production and sales plan (MPS: Master Production Schedule).
basic module of a system, it is supposed to support production/ supply schedules (MRP schedules) generating and to prepare input data used in planning and budgeting.
the function of the module is to support and verify MRP schedules. It is also used to control and verify Master Production Schedule and long-term plans.
Cooperates with data modules (registers) and MRP, provides inventory data required by planning modules. It can support requirement planning of items not included in MRP;
the module transforms MRP schedules into production plans of particular production units
The module generates detailed production schedules for particular production units (usually for production lines).
the module is supposed to compare production planned and/or released (input) to production completed (output). It can also record production process and generate reports. It often includes detailed analysis of production costs.
the module supports purchasing in terms of generating supply plans which are to be based on MRP schedules and of their checking and control.
organizes information flow between planning modules, MRPII data records and cost and financial systems. Nowadays these functions are performed by the financial modules of the system.
the module is important for the systems which are supposed to support planning and performing of production processes. It is not very common, usually its functions are realised by Inventory Management module.
the module supports planning with simulation. It is usually universal, though it can specialize in Material Requirement Planning.
The module supports distribution of final goods according to modified model of Material Requirements Planning. It is useful if the company has its own distribution system (net) or for a distribution company. The module is not available in regular system versions. What is more, sometimes Master Production Schedule is called Distribution.
the module is supposed to asses efficiency of production and to inform managers about production process. Usually it has some additional functions, which make it Management Information System.
