  9. Building Block Transitions How to Use: The pages that follow highlight the changes in Building Blocks from 2011 to 2012. Please use this section to identify the appropriate transitions for your customers. Appropriate Transitions are listed on the same line based on either comparable capacity, comparable price range, or both. Workhorse Policy: The ThinkPad BU is moving away from a focus on workhorse models to a focus on Workhorse Building Blocks that will remain stable throughout the product for 12 months after launch of the product. Colors Codes & Notes: Building blocks in black text boxes represent standard building blocks. Building blocks in Yellowtext boxes represent Workhorse building blocks. Building blocks w/ Asterisks are either not formally in plan or have limited distribution read the note at the bottom of the slide for more detail.

  35. Color Calibrator – Why color calibration? • Every display is different • From brand to brand, model to model, even within same model • Each has unique “fingerprint” • A calibrated display is the foundation for any digital workflow. • If you can not trust the colors displayed on your display, all other color decisions could be a waste of time. • Calibrating and profiling your display should, therefore, be your first priority. • Luckily, it is the easiest part of the digital workflow, we have taken it to a new level of simplicity. • Fact is, an un-calibrated display contributes to unproductive hours spent guessing, tuning, tweaking colors and creates a productivity bottle neck when editing and processing.

  36. Color Calibrator – Key Advantages Embedded vs. External Calibration • Custom Calibration – Optimal Color Results • External devices calibrated to address broad array of display • Embedded provides custom calibration for specific models providing better measurement results and optimal color calibration • Lower cost of ownership – Same Quality • 60% less than external calibration devices • Simplicity • No set up required. Simply launch application, close lid, open when complete – DONE! • Confidence • Ensures viewing conditions are color correct and environment is color safe • Saves Time • No set up, No break down, Never leaves your desk, piece of cake • Portability • Embedded means that calibration tools are always with you • You’ll never lose it! • No replacement costs of lost hardware

  37. Color Calibrator – What are we actually DOing? • First, calibration; i.e. setting your monitor to a well defined, standard state, • We default to a state of 6500K (or D65) as industry accepted default to sRGB. Next, select the gamma to use, we default to 2.2 this allows for the maximum range of colors your system can display. • Next calibration step involves setting the black (brightness) and white (contrast) levels to their optimum values • Last is to profile sensor measures a set of color patches to determine the limits of the monitors color display capability, blah, blah, blah. • WOW, seems complex! It is, but not anymore. We have streamlined this process to make it super simple.
