2. An Overview of the Sage Premier Collection • Sage is a publisher of quality research journals. They also provide access to their journals via a database called Sage Publications Collection • Only articles published in Sage Journals are included in this database • All journals included in the collection are peer-reviewed and full-text • There are over 640 journals in Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Medicine included in the databaseViewa full list of titles • Access to the Sage Collection is via the GSC Discovery Service The following tutorial will provide guidance on how to access and use the Sage Publications Collection

3. Two Approaches to Finding Articles in the Sage Publications Collection The following tutorial walks you through both scenarios. By using the buttons above, you can also go directly to the approach that best meets your needs. • You have the article of an article you know is included in a Sage Publication • You want to browse journals in a particular subject and think they might be Sage publications I know the article title I Want to Browse Sage Journals What I really want to know is how to cite the article I found in Sage Publications I need to cite a journal article

4. Finding an Article in Sage Publications When You Have the Article Title • This Approach works best when: • You know the article is in a Sage Publication • You have the exact title of the article Enter the article title here

5. Enter the GSC Discovery Service • Standard entry via the LRC homepage at library.granite.edu • Once you log in you will be taken to the Discovery Service Basic Search Page

6. The Sage Article is Found Click on: Full Text through Linksource • Notice • The Journal Name, Volume, Number, and Date • In this case: Remedial and Special Education, v. 33, n. 4 2012. You will need this information to find your article • Full Text through LinkSource

7. The Link Takes You to the Resource (Journal) Containing the Citation for the Article Click on the link

8. You Are Now in the Sage Publication Site, Accessing the Journal Containing the Article You Need Click on: All Issues

9. Find the Year, Vol. and Date of the Issue You Need The citation says the article was published in 2012, so click here

10. Select the Vol. and Number of the Issue You Need Click on the link: This is the volume and issue containing your article

11. Find Your Article in the Issue Your article is here Click here- PDF of Full Text

12. Enter Your Log-in Information • The first time you access an article in the Sage Collection you will be asked to log in. Enter the same UserID and Password you use to access the GSC Discovery Service • Check the box “Remain Logged In” • You should not have to re-enter the log-in information again

13. Your Article is Available • Notes: • Your article will start on page 2 of the PDF • Note the Sage Publication tools along the right: Journal’s Table of Contents, related articles and references. • The CITATION for this article in various citation formats is available from the Discovery Service I need to cite a journal article

14. Browsing Sage Publications This Approach works best when: • You have a journal title that might be a Sage Publication • You are interested in Sage journals published in a subject area Start by accessing the GSC Discovery Basic Search Page. Note the A-Z Publications Locator Click on A-Z Publications Locator

15. Using the A-Z Publications Locator • The Ebsco tool contains all the information resources leased by GSC and available via the Discovery Service • The resources are searchable through a variety of venues Click on INDEX to get a full listing of the journals included in the Sage Collection

16. Using the Index Tab • The Index tab takes you to all the databases held within the Discovery Service • Within the databases are lists of journals and e-books held Click on INDEX to get a full listing of the journals included in the Sage Collection

17. All Sage Journals GSC Has in the Collection Click on this link to see a full listing of Sage Journals You can then use this list to search for Sage Journals by title

18. Search For Sage Journals by Subject Click on Subject to get a listing of ALL journals organized by subject NOTE: When you use the Subject tab you will gain access to Sage plus other journals in a particular subject area. Not all journals will provide full-text access.

19. Locate the Subject • Use the drop-down menu to select a subject • Note the ability to identify sub-categories Indicates 66 journals in Educational Research- click on the link to see the journals. Again note: Not all the 66 journals will be from Sage Publications and they may not provide full-text to articles.

20. Locate the Sage Journal in the Subject Click on: Sage Premier 2013 (Cristin) American Education Research Journal is available from Sage.

21. You Are Now on the Sage Site • Since you are browsing, you might want to: • Check out the current issue • Look at past issues and their tables of contents • Look for authors you recognize as leaders in the field

22. Cite the Article The Citation Tool is found in the Discovery Service. To use it: • Click on the title of the article after you found it through Basic Search Click on article Use the Ebsco Citation Tool on right side navigation bar Click on Cite, then select the citation format that meets your needs. You can copy and paste the pre-formatted citation but ALWAYS check for accuracy.
