  1. Make A Wish Illinois Katherine Kuehl IAJHSC Midwest District Representative

  2. What Do They Do Make A Wish Illinois is an organization that works with sick children from around the state. These children are able to request their wishes. These wishes could be as simple as wishing for a birthday party or as grand as a trip to Disneyworld. Make A Wish Illinois does not prioritize one wish over another. Every wish request is fulfilled. Every year, around 1,200 children in Illinois are newly diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Make A Wish Illinois believes that these wishes are important in the overall care and treatment of these children. When kids get diagnosed with a serious condition it can have a devastating effect on their mental health. Seeing their wishes fulfilled can boost their attitude and help treatments be more successful.

  3. Location of Make A Wish Illinois • Make A Wish Illinois impacts kids throughout the entire state. Their main offices are located in Peoria, Springfield, and Chicago.

  4. Will They Be Able to Be At IAJHSC Leadership Workshops and State Convention? • Make A Wish Illinois has assured me that a representative from their company will be able to attend important events. • If they are chosen they will be able to provide information at these events.

  5. Criteria • Make A Wish is a non-profit organization that help children from the ages 2 ½ - 18. • All their donations help sick children fulfill their wishes. • Make A Wish Illinois will use the money to help these children by granting their wishes and giving them the hope that they have been missing. • These wishes can be pretty much anything such as, a birthday party, a trip to Disneyland, a certain toy, or meeting someone famous.

  6. How Make A Wish Will Spend the Donation • Make A Wish Illinois will use the money to give sick children a chance to make wishes and see them come true. • These wishes fall into three categories. They can wish to go, meet, or have. They can go places like Disneyland, Costa Rica, or San Francisco. They can have things like, themed birthday parties, shopping sprees, or a swimming pool. Some other kids wish to meet sports teams or Disney characters • These kids have life threatening conditions. Make a Wish Illinois begins the wish process as soon as the request is put in. • All children who are medically eligible have wishes fulfilled. There is no waiting list and the family’s financial status isn’t considered. • After these kid’s had their wishes fulfilled 85% of parents saw a decrease in their child’s anxieties or fears. 81% of them observed an increased willingness of their child to comply with treatment protocols.

  7. CONCLUSION • Thank you all for listening to my presentation and I hope you consider Make A Wish Illinois to be your 2019-2020 State Service Project.
