  3. INTRODUCTION • Benin • GBIF Member since December 2004 • No progress until December 2009 • Many challenges

  4. MAIN CHALLENGES • Lack of information and communication policy • Data holders are not always wiling to share their data • Data are not digitized • Needs to carry out research activities on biodiversity • Lack of adequate materials • Staff is not capacitated

  5. MAIN CHALLENGES • Lack of found to promote large scale data digitization , purchase adequate materials, undertake staff and population trainings… • Limited access to internet • Power shortage

ACTIONS TO ALLEVIATE THE CHALLENGES • Find out founds through projects at national, regional and international levels to : • Involve media in information and educational policy • undertake capacity building and trainings (staff, population and policy makers) • Carry on research activities • Incentivize data sharing • Incentivize institutions hosting data • large scale data digitization , purchase adequate materials, • Introduce bioinformatics in primary and secondary schools

  7. ROADMAP • Data provision to GBIF (2010-2011) • Promote Benin as a voting member of GBIF in 2011 • Trainings (staff, population, policy makers…) (2010-2011)
