Punks • Punk was apart of fashion and lifestyle. It was one of the main cultures happening in the 70’s • They used 2nd hand, dirty old, cheap clothes and transformed them using pins, black tape, padlocks. • They used razors, spikes as accessories. • They use to tear, rip anything they can do to make it look crude and rebellish. • They were worn with heavy Doc Martens footwear, a utilitarian, practical traffic meter maid type of footwear in that era, not seen on many young women until then. • Punk bands such as Ramones or Sex pistols were role models and were wearing most of these statement fashion items • A lot of the punk fashion is still carried out to todays fashion, it influenced most clothing on catwalks or shops.

Suedeheads • Suedeheads were a subculture in the 70’s similar to the skinheads but instead they had longer hair and dressed formally • They were middle class working people who had white collar jobs • They wore brogues, loafers with bright colored socks • They wore suits, and staprest trousers with preferably checked pattern • Crombie or sheepskin coats, wearing sweaters ontop of their shirts • Women suedeheads were called “sorts” • Listen to reggae, ska, and slower soulful music
ZooYork • Zoo york is a style/social philosophy inspired by NYC graffiti art subculture in 70’s • The name originated from the subway tunnel underneath Central Park zoo • This is where very early ‘old school’ graffiti artists hung out with the hippies 60’s-70’s • Founded by soul artist Rapper Ali, the tunnel provided a scene which Manhattan graffiti artist gathered at nights • Currently now Zoo York is a collection that influenced skateboarding culture, owned by Ecko Limited.
Lesbian feminism • Largely emerged response to the womens liberation movements exclusion of the lesbians • The big movement happened when radicalesbians(activists) took over a conference in NYC the congress to unite women.
