  1. Uniform Assembly June 2012

  2. What does uniform mean ? Remaining the same Denoting a garment forming part of a person’s uniform e.g. black uniform jacket The distinctive clothing worn by members of the same organisation Something which everyone wears

  3. Why do people wear uniform ? So that members of the public know who they are So that they feel part of an organisation and are proud of it To help develop a strong sense of working together as a team

  4. 4. So that they always look smart and promote the right image of the organisation that they work for.

  5. So why does CHS have a uniform for pupils ? Because this is your place of WORK – arriving on time, wearing the correct uniform, ready for work, with all the equipment you need for lessons, is teaching you about employability (And that is very important these days)

  6. Any Other Reasons ? It identifies you in the community as pupils of our school and promotes a strong image of CHS as a VERY GOOD school. This gives you a lot to live up to, which is a good thing.

  7. It is all about equality – no showing off with expensive trainers and designer clothes It reminds you every day that you are part of a team and that you are working to help yourselves and each other to be as successful as possible in everything you do. This gives you a sense of “belonging” and “identity”

  8. Doesn’t uniform take away from our sense of ourselves as individuals ? Not at all ! It reminds you every day that you are part of a very good school that sets high standards It reminds you of the importance of being part of a community that works as a team Individuality is about WHO you are – not what you wear

  9. Why are we wanting to tighten up on school uniform ? Because the uniform doesn’t look like a uniform any more – pupils are not all wearing the same and it no longer looks very smart Because many pupils are wearing clothing which is really NOT SUITABLE for school. Arguing about this with teachers takes away from valuable learning time.

  10. These are the points that we will focus on : Ties must be properly knotted as near the neck as possible (so blouses need to have buttons) No one should be wearing a football top under their shirt

  11. The following are DEFINITELY NOT ALLOWED in school : short skirts shorts jeans of any colour leggings/jeggings coloured shoes dangly earrings heavy make-up excessive jewellery patterned tights fashion blouses

  12. These guidelines are not new – people have just ignored them. That has to change ! We will not waste time arguing about uniform. You will just lose privileges e.g. the freedom to go out of school at lunch time.

  13. Clydebank High is a great school. We are not going to let a few pupils spoil our image in the community.
