  2. I was a student sitting in a desk.Then I became a teacher standing in front of all the desks. My change involved only a few steps and a small distance, but it was a large change.

  3. When I was a student: I had responsibility only for myself.When I became a teacher: I had more and different responsibilities.

  4. Developing knowledge of and experience with these new responsibilities is part of what professional development of teaching assistants is about.

  5. Responsibility • For preparing every day • For seeing that the students in your class learn

  6. Responsibility • For helping your students develop a positive attitude about science and physics • For evaluating students

  7. Responsibility • For making sure that you understand well the best methods of instruction

  8. Later when you are a professor or group leader you will have additional responsibilities

  9. Responsibility • for helping, guiding and evaluating teaching assistants or similar coworkers

  10. Responsibility • for seeing that your vision of what needs to be done can be executed with the resources available and within the written and unwritten rules of the university or whatever institution you are a part of.

  11. Responsibility • For seeing that you understand the evaluation, promotion and tenure system.

  12. Responsibility • For seeing that you making progress within the institution so that you will get good evaluations and be promoted with tenure or whatever steps your institution has.

  13. Like this one, most universities and colleges these days are requiring not only focus on research and innovations in research but also strong contributions to teaching and innovations in teaching.

  14. Responsibility • For seeing that you will have a position situated within a context and that institution has goals that you can contribute to.

  15. Responsibility • For seeing that being a professional requires not only vision but also attention to detail and contributing to meetings, follow-up, being a good citizen……...

  18. As you study physics and develop your disciplinary abilities, you can also develop professionally. You will be working with professors and other leaders whose shoes you will fill in the future.
