Extension Council Youth Leadership (ECYL)Topic #3 Learning Objectives: • Understand the legal privileges and limitations of youth non-voting roles. • Understand the responsibilities and expectations of council membership for youth and adults. • Describe common barriers that often limit the ability of youth to participate in council meetings. • Identify meeting procedures that are inclusive of youth.

  3. Creating Youth Non-Voting Representative Roles & Expectations Job Description • Look over the sample job description. • Pay close attention to the terms listed for the position. • Modify the job description so it fits your council. • Report changes you decide upon.

Creating Youth Non-Voting Representative Roles & Expectations Bylaws • Look over the sample council bylaws. • Locate each place in the bylaws referring to new youth positions (underlined text). • Discuss and modify the bylaws in accordance with your council’s goals. • Report changes you decide upon.

Creating Youth Non-Voting Representative Roles & Expectations Bylaws Revision and Approval • Council appoints committee to handle bylaws revision. • Committee reviews current bylaws and incorporates language to add youth representatives. • Committee presents bylaws revision to full council for consideration. • Council discusses and approves bylaws revision.
