Objective 7:
  • Ingestion = taking in of food and nutrients
  • Chewing = mastication of food and nutrients into a bolus using the mouth, teeth and tongue
  • Swallowing = movement of bolus past pharynx and into the esophagus to undergo peristalsis.

  • Saliva’s function is cleanse mouth, moisten food, aid compactions, dissolve for taste, begin digestion.

  • Zymogenic cells secrete pepsin.
