  3. Background Information • According to the worldwide quality of living survey, • Singapore is top in city infrastructure • All this goes to improvement in • transport • communications • supply • Housing • etc…… • City infrastructure is important in the way people are housed around Singapore

  4. URA • Also Known as the Urban Redevelopment Authority • In charge of land management (long term plans) • Create self-sufficient districts to reduce travelling time • Challenges • Housing – Maximum Density needed to house growing population • Land reclamation

Urban Planning • The central area is one the main business districts • Shopping centres / offices in area • Convenient for gatherings • Residential Estates located in other parts of Singapore • Transport systems improve convenience • Separate districts reduce travelling distance • Trees around everywhere • Reduce harmful gases from environment • Planted everywhere around neighbourhoods/roads

  6. Urban Planning • A constant challenge to increase the number of homes every year needs to be met.

  7. Ethnicity Issues • Singapore is a multi-ethnical society • In the past during Raffles’s time, districts were grouped Ethnically. • Introduction of Ethnic Integration Policy (HDB) • Fixed quota of ethnic proportion • If exceeded, applicant of a certain race will be rejected
