  2. SUMMARY To begin with, William Wallace was born in 1272, eight centuries ago, in Elderslie, Scotland. English soldiers killed his father who died in 1291. Then Edward I (the first) took control of Scotland in 1296. So Wallace started the resistance against the English in 1297. In September 1297, Wallace and his followers won the battle of Stirling and in the winter of 1297-1298 they invaded England.

  3. But in 1298, Edward I returned to Scotland with a huge army. In July 1298, Wallace lost the battle of Falkirk. And then from 1298 to 1305, he was in hiding, but on August 3rd (the third) 1305 the English captured him. Finally Wallace’s trial took place in London on August 23rd (the twenty-third) 1305, and on August 24th (the twenty-fourth), he was executed.
