  2. Simile Definitions • Using like or as to compare more than 1 thing. Examples • The ground was as damp as the salty blue ocean. • Mike’s voice was as clear as a whistle.

  3. Metaphor Definition • Comparing 2 or more things without using like or as; something is something else. Examples • Angela’s hair was a bird’s nest. • My bedroom was a pig pin.

  4. Hyperbole Definition • Using exaggeration to make a point. • Examples • I am so hungry that I could eat a cow. • I am so annoyed that I could jump off a building.

  5. Onomatopoeia Definition • Sound word. Examples • My book fell off my desk with a bang. • The clock on the wall made a tick-tock noise.

  6. Alliteration • Definition • Repetition of beginning a sound • Examples • The purple hippo ate fish in the sea. • The blue whale shot water out of its blow whole.

  7. Personification Definition • Giving human qualities to something not human. Examples • As I walked through the forest ,the trees talked to me. • After I ate, the food walked around inside me.

  8. Idiom Definition • A well known expression that does not mean what it says. Examples • My dad was being as busy as a bee. • My cousin uses the expression “cat got your tongue” when someone says something bad.
