  1. Types of Breast Implant Incision Type of incision is one of the most important decisions your plastic surgeon will make. Though many surgeons prefer a particular approach for insertion of the implant, some of them suggest a specific type depending on the need of the patient. Before you sign up for breast augmentation in Chicago, here is four types of incision you should know about. Periareolar incision In this method, incision is made around the border of areola (brown or pink colored area surrounding the nipple). The main motto of this method is to make incision between the dark-colored area and surrounding skin of the breast which helps to minimize the incision’s visibility. There are pros and cons of this type of incision. Advantage is that the periareolar gives great control to surgeon for the position of implant. It leads a better accuracy of implants placement and minimal visibility of scars. However, the drawbacks are - loss in nipple sensation and inability in breastfeeding. Transaxillary incision The transaxillary incision is made in the natural fold of armpit tissue. Implant is placed behind the nipple by creating incision through a channel from armpit to the breast. In some cases, surgeon uses an endoscope to guide through the incision. The cons of this method is greater risk of asymmetry in the position of breast implants. However, the advantage of virtually no scars on breast as it is performed from a distant incision area. Inframmary incision Inframmary incision is done at the bottom of the breast and incision is placed from the fold where breast and skin come together. The surgeon creates a patch to slide the implants upward through the incision and places it behind the nipple. Though the incision may leave a scar, it stays hidden under the bra strap. The advantage of inflammatory incision is that it allows the surgeon to work in closer area to breast which improves the accuracy of the implants placement. TUBA incision In this type of incision, cut is made on the rim of the navel as well as skin through the tunnel of fatty tissue. With the help of endoscope, the surgeon makes a pathway from navel to breast and places it through the incision site. The entire process is greatly decided by endoscope which often poses challenges before the surgeon for the accurate placement of implants. Incision type is an important decision, and it should be made after weighing all options and pros and cons of every incision type with your surgeon.
