  1. Matrix Chambers Celebrating its tenth anniversary last year, Matrix is proud still to be recognised as the “go-to set” for “cases which really push the boundaries of the law.” Our strengths lie in our commitment to providing “a progressive, forward-thinking service which caters to the needs of the modern-day client” (Chambers & Partners 2012).

  2. Areas of practice The members of Matrix practice in a range of different areas of UK public and private law, the law of the European Union and European Convention on Human Rights, and public international law. Matrix’s legal practice is multi-disciplinary. Perhaps most popularly known for our leading position in the law of Human Rights, Matrix members are recognised in both the major directories as leading practitioners in more than twenty-four areas of law. Matrix was established to bring together practitioners who recognise that traditional disciplines are becoming increasingly influenced by common principles of constitutional, European and international law. The linkages provide challenges and opportunities for legal practice at the national, European and international levels, which we are uniquely well placed to address. The broad range of advocacy and advisory legal services that we provide, in the UK and internationally, include:* Litigation before English and other UK courts* Litigation before international courts, including the European Court of Justice and European Court of Human Rights, International Court of Justice, International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea * Litigation before national and international arbitration tribunals, including ICC, ICSID and UNCITRAL* Advice to solicitors, other law firms, Governments and public agencies, intergovernmental organisations, and commercial organisations.* Consultancy services on legal and policy matters* In-house training and seminars, including continuing legal education

  3. Core Values A Commitment to working together to deliver legal services Teamwork and co-operation are important values. Although Members and Associates of Matrix are individual practitioners, they are committed to working together to deliver legal services including, in particular, through sharing legal knowledge and experience.

  4. Client care and quality of service Individually and as a practice we are committed to providing a high quality of client care and legal service

  5. Innovation We are committed to innovation, for example by experimenting with new ways of delivering legal services. The practice is committed to breaking down the traditional barriers between other providers of legal services.

  6. Promotion of equality of opportunity The practice seeks actively to promote equality of opportunity. It is a long term aspiration that the practice be comprised of roughly equal proportions of women and men, and that minorities be properly represented. It is one of the aims of the practice to help facilitate access to the legal profession to those traditionally excluded.

  7. Ethical legal practice Members and Associates of Matrix have a shared commitment to the legal profession's wider responsibilities to society.

  8. Environment Matrix will take all reasonable steps to reduce the negative impacts of its activities on the environment including minimising its contribution to climate change except where the cost of doing so is wholly disproportionate to the benefit gained.

  9. Continuing education Matrix is committed to the continuing education of its Members, Associates and staff, for example by regular internal seminars and discussion groups and by supporting staff who wish to undertake relevant training and education.
