Introduction to Promodel Simulation Lab: An Overview of Installation and Reporting
In this lab, you will install Promodel software from your textbook CD onto your chosen PC and explore its simulation capabilities through Lab 1 and Lab 5. You will run demos to understand various simulation scenarios, examine the California Cellular customer service models, and familiarize yourself with the Output Program Manager and Output Viewer 3DR. By Week 3, ensure you have a jump drive for storage and a method for print-outs via lab printer. Learn to create and export reports for a comprehensive simulation analysis.

Friday Lab • Bring CD and book • Load Promodel on PC of your choice, see next slide for specific directions • Work through Lab 1 – Intro to Promodel, • Run the Promodel demos, they will provide you with an idea as to the range of situations where simulation can be applied to generate “optimal” solutions • Read through Lab 5 – familiarize yourself w/ capabilities of the Output Program Manager – Output Viewer 3DR • By Week 3 – will need jump drive / flash memory stick for storage media, and method of paying for print-outs via lab printer (i.e., U-card)
Lab 2 Schedule • Install Promodel S/W from textbook CD on Engr 204 lab PC • Place in C:\Program Files\Promodel\ directory • Open California Cellular customer service model from Promodel \ student \ Lab 01 \ directory • Run each model (e.g., one-server & two server scenarios, and examine model reports) • Follow along IAW Lab 1.2 in text to gain an understanding of what the simulation is telling you
Lab 1 Schedule • After looking at the reports generated from runs of the California Cellular models: • Complete review of Lab 5 – Output Module (Reports) • Open the help menu on the Output Viewer 3DR screen • Click on the topics and go through each item to gain an understanding of just what information you can gather to submit a coherent lab report • Output Viewer 3DR • Creating Reports • Creating Graphs
Lab 1 Schedule • Reports can be exported to Excel using the “comma delimited format” from each report screen, and then assembled using Word to generate a report • The textual report describing the construction of the model can be generated from the Promodel screen using the file/print commands • For instance:
