  2. On 23rd May 2007 it was claimed that for the first time in history more people live in urban areas than rural areas.

  3. What is Urbanisation • Urbanisation is the movement of people from rural to urban areas.

  4. Quite simply urbanisation is as a result of rural to urban migration

  5. Shanghai: An example of a large RIC city • Study the photo of Shanghai on P76. It is China’s biggest city. • Produce a spidergram to suggest why many people in China might want to move to Shanghai.

  6. The reasons people migrate is because of push and pull factors. • Push factors make you/force you leave your rural home. • Pull factors are the things that attract you to the city. • Activity- Identify as many reasons as possible why people might migrate. Divide these into 2 spidergrams. Push factors and Pull factors.

  7. Life in cities in LEDCs such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in Brazil can be difficult. • Watch or take notes from the DVD; ‘Slum Cities’.
