  1. Long Beach City CollegeElectrical Technology Program 45 Unit Associate Degree Program Emphasis is on Industrial Electrical Applications Program has approx 560 students per semester Classes include: Motors & Transformers; Variable Speed Drives; Motor Control; PLC Programming; Robotics Technology Program has a 96% hire rate for students completing program. Staff includes 5 full time and 12 part-time instructors.

  2. Long Beach City CollegeElectrical Technology Program • Solidworks is used as a tool in the Robotics Technology Classes. • The online tutorial is where the electrical students learn how to use the program. • Students are able to create parts and assemblies without any formal training in Solidworks. • Student’s surprise themselves with the parts they build. “I had no idea I could create that!”

  3. Long Beach City CollegeElectrical Technology Program • Instructor Perspective: • Incorporation of Solidworks in the Robotics Technology class has pushed the class farther than I was previously able. • Students can immediately see visual representations of designs for robotic parts. • Plays to today’s students “visual learning”. • If a picture is worth a 1000 words, how many is a 3D model worth?

  4. Long Beach City CollegeElectrical Technology Program • LBCC Students are able to compete on an international level with their underwater robotics design. • The ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) incorporates all aspects of robotics technology in a harsh environment. • Building a working system is simplified when the designs are done from the start using CAD. • LBCC Students incorporate the CAD designs and utilize industry CAM processes to build many of the parts. • (Remember, most of these students are electrical students)
